Last week, we unveiled our Commitment to America plan, which outlines the goals and policies House Republicans are championing in order to earn back the gavel and deliver results for the American people. In short, Our Commitment to America is to provide hardworking Americans with an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, a future that’s built on freedom, and a government that’s accountable. Several measures included in our unifying proposal include fighting inflation, making the United States energy independent, securing the southern border, reducing crime, ensuring parents have a voice in their children’s education, preserving our constitutional freedoms, and conducting rigorous oversight to uncover the government corruption that has gone unchecked for far too long.

After soaring price hikes have burdened the American people nonstop for more than a year, Democrats on the House Oversight Economic and Consumer Policy Subcommittee finally held their first hearing related to inflation last week. Yet instead of addressing the true cause of hyperinflation and the pain high prices have inflicted upon hardworking Americans, Democrats shamelessly blamed corporations and capitalism for inflation woes. In response, I used my time to call out this wildly misleading narrative by explaining how President Biden and Congressional Democrats’ out-of-control spending and failed economic policies created – and continue to fuel – crushing inflation. Additionally, I asked UC Berkeley Professor and former Labor Secretary Robert Reich about the qualifications of economist Larry Summers, who served in both the Clinton and Obama Administrations, since Mr. Summers has routinely warned about the inflationary impacts caused by Democrats’ reckless spending. I also pressed additional witnesses on the cause of inflation and whether President Biden’s recent remarks downplaying price hikes truly reflect the current economic situation. Additionally, during the House Oversight Committee last Tuesday, Republicans offered H. Res. 1243, which would require President Biden to hand over documents related to the Biden family’s international business deals and influence peddling. This information is essential to ensuring the Oversight Committee is able to conduct proper oversight over President Biden and his family’s business dealings – before, during, and after the President’s tenure in public office. Unsurprisingly, Committee Democrats voted to kill our resolution of inquiry to conceal the President’s suspicious activity. Yet despite Democrats’ refusal to provide the American people with the transparency and accountability they deserve, Committee Republicans highlighted various examples of the Biden family’s atrocious behavior that puts our national security at risk. For example, I used my time to discuss the corrupt activity between Hunter Biden and Chinese nationalist and CEO of Bohai Capital, Jonathan Li – specifically regarding their private equity firm’s eyebrow-raising and profitable business deals. As you know, Vice President Kamala Harris, the Biden Administration’s “Border Czar,” recently claimed that the southern border is “secure.” Just a week after Harris shamelessly told this absurd lie to the nation, border data for the month of August solidified what we already knew: the Biden Administration’s border crisis is only getting worse. There were nearly 203,600 illegal border crossings last month – marking the 18^th consecutive month with over 150,000 illegal encounters, a trend never before recorded. In fact, 11 months into Fiscal Year 2022, Border Patrol agents have already faced more than 2.4 million illegal alien encounters. Additionally, 78 suspected terrorists have been stopped at the southern border so far this year – triple the number from the last five years combined. Clearly, our southern border is not secure — I know it, you know it, and even illegal aliens know it. 

In response, I led over a dozen of my colleagues in sending a letter to VP Harris demanding that she tell the truth about the Administration’s self-inflicted border crisis. The Vice President must immediately retract her severely deceptive claim and issue an apology for attempting to manipulate the American people. Instead of working to conceal the Biden Administration’s manufactured border mayhem, I urge our so-called “Border Czar” to visit the crisis-plagued border towns and CBP agents, abandon destructive open-border policies, and provide Americans with the border security — and national security — they rightfully deserve.

Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) has served Northeast Georgian communities for over 30 years, with volunteer service playing a significant role in their operations. In fact, Hospice of NGMC is a proud partner of We Honor Veterans, a national project that establishes partnerships between hospice and Department of Veterans Affairs volunteers, veterans, and professionals in order to deliver quality care and services to veterans facing unique challenges at the end of life. A key component of the We Honor Veterans program is the Service Recognition Ceremony, where veteran and hospice volunteers honor a veteran’s heroic service.

Last month, Northeast Georgian veterans held a recognition ceremony for World War II veteran Dr. Matt McGowan, who courageously joined the Marines in 1943. Dr. McGowan bravely served this great nation for 28 years, including as a Chaplain for the U.S. Army. I’d like to honor Dr. McGowan’s selfless sacrifice, as well as thank our local veteran volunteers for recognizing his service in the defense of our precious freedoms.
