John,
By Black women and for ALL, #DayWithoutUs is about resisting the everyday systems that TAKE and coming together for a day-long pause of protest, learning, and community building.
Our current way of life requires that we exercise our power in both new and familiar ways. Black women have always been connectors between our communities and every part of the democratic process; this is no different. The urgency to address reproductive rights is a direct part of protecting our overall freedom.
The goal of #DayWithoutUs is to come together over our shared struggles, flex our collective power, and HAVE FUN.
We're doing this because we own our bodies and our time. Intentionally centering the fight for reproductive justice is crucial — because it's everyone's fight.
Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation is proud to be a partner of #DayWithoutUs. Learn more about #DayWithoutUs and the teach-ins happening this Friday below >>
We hope that this Friday, you will join us in answering the urgent call to exercise our collective power in a #DayWithoutUs. The fight for our future is happening right now. As Langston Hughes put it, we must participate in days of action like #DayWithoutUs
“...In order to actualize America — the land that has never been and yet must be, where every human is free.”
Time and again, Black women are the backbone of our democracy. That's why it's so important for us to remove ourselves for a day – because we own our bodies, our reproductive freedom, and our collective struggle. We have to resist business as usual if we want to remove ourselves from daily demands, often stemming from systems of white supremacy.
This Friday, we hope you'll come together with us. And if you can't – no worries.
You can still support #DayWithoutUs by chipping into their fight >>
In love and solidarity,
