Invitation for you to advance energy justice with us!

Opportunities to build collective power for energy justice

** Our Special Updates:
------------------------------------------------------------
In the face of climate catastrophe and utility-caused calamity across the country, energy democracy activists are calling for control, ownership, and decision-making regarding energy resources to reside in the community rather than in remote corporate boardrooms.

Dozens of energy democracy organizations have been working together to build our strategic capacity to advance energy justice over the past several months. We are excited to share with you the tools and resources we created to build a movement to democratize energy!

🌻 Reimagined Energy for Our Communities, U.S.
It’s time to unite our efforts for justice, from Alaska to Puerto Rico, and welcomes all from the public--allies, collaborators, and individuals--to participate in taking action.

WHEN: October 13th at 2p ET/ 1p CT/ 12p MT/ 11a PT/ 10a AKT

WHAT TO EXPECT:
In a brief 1.5-hour webinar, participants will walk away with critical tools:
* Deepened understanding of Energy Democracy and its ties with other struggles within the global justice movement
* Multi-modal methods to amplify our work and empower communities to pursue an equitable energy system
* Clear ways to take action for justice in our own communities, as well as in solidarity with one of the most critical Energy Democracy activism efforts of our time, based in Puerto Rico
* We plan to have Spanish translation

By connecting with one another in a space of co-learning, attendees will log off the call ready to leverage new tools and practices to amplify the Energy Democracy movement in their local communities in 2022.

After the Oct 13 webinar, we will be incorporating the feedback of community activists. Join us on Oct 26 at 1 ET/10 PT for a follow-up discussion geared more toward people who work at the state level in their advocacy ([link removed]) . Feel free to attend either, regardless of how you are situated in the fight.

Can't do either but want to be sure you stay in the loop? Fill out this info card ([link removed]) .

** ✊ Support Our Responses to Recent Disasters!
------------------------------------------------------------
In the environment of constant extraction and disaster capitalism, solidarity is the only way for us to build power around real solutions. Please give what you can to support the community-empowering responses to the most recent disasters:
* 💵 Western Alaska Disaster Recovery Fund ([link removed]) : Shared by our Project Collaborator -- the Alaska Center -- this fund was created to address the immediate needs and support the recovery and restoration of the communities in Western Alaska affected by Typhoon Merbok.
* 💵 ([link removed]) Jobos Bay Residents in Puerto Rico Seek Support ([link removed]) : Shared by our Project Collaborator -- Comité Diálogo Ambiental -- people in the Salinas-Guayama region will directly benefit from this fund, as they continue their mutual support efforts to care for themselves and their neighbors. Historical treatment and present conditions demonstrate that local community members cannot rely on territorial and federal officials for "help." Please donate what you can and/or share this link with others.
* 🖋Quick Response Solidarity Program ([link removed]) : Frontline communities already have the solutions! Please join the Quick Response Solidarity Program to add your organization to all requests related to the need for a justice-centered energy transition in Puerto Rico on an ongoing basis...
+ For decades, a collective of Puerto Rican activists have been organizing towards a shared goal of distributed renewable energy for their community. Now, they are turning to organizations in the US for support as they ramp up efforts in what’s shaping up to be a pivotal period for the future of energy in the archipelago.

** What is the Energy Democracy Project?
------------------------------------------------------------

Since the Energy Democracy National Tour in 2018, almost 40 energy democracy practitioners have been collaborating to build shared resources and strategy to democratize energy.

The Energy Democracy Project represents a collaborative for advancing and strengthening the movement to democratize energy. Project Collaborators are racially and geographically diverse energy democracy organizations advocating for community-based, solutions-focused, frontline-led, and justice-centered renewable energy efforts.

We work translocally to build community ownership and control of clean energy resources and to promote racial and economic equity as a cornerstone of the clean energy transition. We are not a typical coalition/alliance/network. We are the Energy Democracy Project.
