Hi John.
You may have heard me say this before –
Entrepreneurship is baked into the DNA of the Kansas Third District.
Our local small businesses are a pillar of our economy in Kansas. They’re innovating, unclogging our supply chains, and creating jobs.
I’m honored to serve as Chair of the Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth. I’m here to make sure the federal government is a strategic partner, not an obstacle. Instead of getting in the way, we can lay the foundation for future growth.
That’s why I’m pleased to announce a new federal grant to help Kansas businesses.
It’s important for Republicans and Democrats to work together to support small businesses. That’s why I introduced the Women’s Business Center Improvement Act with my Republican colleagues and helped pass it in the House on a bipartisan vote. Our bipartisan bill builds on local success stories like the Culinary Center of Kansas City, a local woman-owned business.
This grant will help local small businesses export their products and compete around the globe. We make a lot of great things here in Kansas. I’m always looking for ways to help our small businesses grow and reach a wider audience.
This Small Business Administration initiative has already had a great local impact. Since 2012, it has helped more than 200 Kansas businesses achieve $44 million in export sales.
This is yet another example of what we can do when we work together – and aren’t distracted by partisanship.
I know Kansas are frustrated by political games. But I know we can build a better future together because I see it happening every day. Just look at how the bipartisan laws we’ve passed are bringing back U.S. manufacturing and rebuilding our infrastructure.
I recently got a first-hand update on those very issues at a roundtable of local business leaders at Kansas City Kansas Community College.
We hosted a roundtable discussion with Kansas City business leaders. It was great to hear how to we can best capitalize on big bipartisan wins in the Kansas Third District.
At that discussion, I spoke with business owners about their ongoing supply chain and workforce needs. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is already making a big impact on both of those issues. In fact, a new investment was just announced to clear America’s largest port to bring down shipping costs and help get inflation under control.
Likewise, the bipartisan CHIPS and Science law is boosting U.S. manufacturers so we can secure our supply chains and make more here at home – not China. It’ll help us manufacture more advanced materials like semiconductor chips in America, which are used in everything from kitchen appliances to medical devices, and train up our workforce to fill those new jobs.
This bipartisan approach is paying dividends for Kansas. You only need to look at Panasonic’s recent announcement that they’ll build a new electric vehicle battery plant in De Soto. This is something I was honored to work closely on with Senator Jerry Moran, Governor Kelly, and other leaders from both sides of the aisle.
Panasonic’s $4 billion investment in our community will create as many as 4,000 new jobs.
I was pleased to also recently announce a new grant for Johnson County Community College. The grant is for its accredited Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training program. It’ll ensure scholarships for 15 veterans, or their immediate family members, to enroll in a nine-week trucking course. Investing in our workforce is crucial for moving our economy forward.
I’m focused on concrete and bipartisan solutions to build a better future – with more jobs and lower prices.
I know Kansans can keep moving forward together. The last thing anyone needs right now is more extremism, division, and empty promises.
