Hi John,

In just a few hours, South Florida will start feeling the effects of Hurricane Ian. Although we aren’t in the direct path, this storm is large and slow-moving, which means we still need to be prepared.

The heaviest rainfall is expected tonight through tomorrow, and high winds are also likely, as well as storm surge, flooding, and strong rip currents.

To make sure you and your family are ready, check out Florida’s Disaster Supply Checklist and access all resources you may need at the Florida Division of Emergency Management website.

You can also call the State Assistance Information Line at 1-800-342-3557 to receive up-to-date information and assistance if needed. And you can call the Miami-Dade Public Schools Hurricane Hotline at 305-995-3000, as well as check their twitter page, for the latest updates on how this storm will affect schools in the area.

South Florida is no stranger to severe weather, but in recent years, we’ve seen worsening flood risks even during a normal afternoon thunderstorm.

The best way to stay safe is to be prepared.

Thank you,

Janelle
