Blame Wall Street Parade!
Oct. 15, 11AM, Grand Army Plaza
Join 350BK’s Stop the Money Pipeline group on Saturday, October 15, for a parade to blame Wall Street for funding the climate crisis. With live music, dance, and costumes, we will march from Grand Army Plaza to three blameworthy banks’ branches to demand an end to their financing of fossil fuel extraction and widespread environmental destruction. The parade will culminate in front of JJ Byrne Park for a rally with dance performances. Sign up here.
Kill the Bill
Make the Phone Calls that Will Protect Us Against More Pipelines
Joe Manchin's "Dirty Deal" bill has surfaced and has a name: "The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2022." If passed, this bill would restrict the ability of local communities to challenge the construction of oil and fracked gas pipelines. Call both of our Senators and your individual Congressional Representative, before the September 30 deadline, to demand this act be stopped. You can call Senator Schumer at 212-486-4430 and Senator Gillibrand at 212-688-6262. Use this form to find the number at which to call your individual Congressional Representative. And please share this information with friends and family.

Wednesday, Sept. 28th we will follow up on last week's DSNY Hearing by calling Speaker Adams's office, demanding that she schedule a hearing on a raft of pending Zero Waste Legislation. We are also on standby to spring into action for Local Law 97, the boldest urban climate law in the world that would require large buildings to become energy efficient. Did you know that 70% of NYC greenhouse gasses come from buildings?
Monday, Oct 3rd, we will continue with some big opportunities for everyday New Yorkers to drive momentum for The Environmental Bond Act, Proposition # 1 on the ballot November 8th. It would provide $4.2 billion dollars to improve water quality, restore wildlife, protect family farms and parks, modernize infrastructure, and expand renewable energy. Getting this measure approved is also an important signal to the NYS legislature that voters are ready and eager to spend money on tackling the climate crisis. We'll be writing to 350BK's allies in the movement to make sure they are telling their members to vote YES!, as well as spreading the word within our own personal networks.
And that's just for starters! Sign up for Power Hour here!
Listen to Climate Check's Newest Episode, "Work to be Done, Joy to be Made"
We’re switching things up for Climate Check’s first anniversary! Recorded at the Brooklyn Public Library, our communications and marketing lead, Brynn, interviews our usual host, Eva, about how “normal people” like her get involved with the climate movement. They chat about how examining one's values leads to sustained activism, compare their favorite climate books, and relish in all the joy, art, and community they’ve both found through 350Brooklyn. Listen to our 10th episode, "Work to be Done, Joy to be Made”, today.

Tabling Continues as we head into Fall! Members of 350Brooklyn’s City Action Committee will host tabling at Grand Army Plaza, simply talking to others about ways to fight the climate crisis. During these tabling sessions we: guide citizens towards concrete calls to action (i.e. signing petitions, emailing legislators, signing up to give testimony), and we engage them on topics such as emissions, renewable energy, and asthma awareness. We also listen to learn about the issues they themselves are passionate about. We invite you to come meet other 350Brooklyn members and learn about our campaigns - we will provide everything you need to participate, including backgrounder materials. Sign up here!
October Monthly Meeting: Rethinking and Reclaiming Our Streets
Tuesday, October 11, 7:30, On Zoom
NYC's current street plan favors cars over people, bringing us air pollution, GHG emissions, and perils for pedestrians. Join us to hear about new proposals for creating a truly walkable, bikeable, accessible city for all. Our speaker will be an activist from Transportation Alternatives. The meeting will be held on Zoom and you can register for it here.
Vote Yes for Climate in November!
Let's Pass Proposition 1, the Environmental Bond Act.
A Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act will be on the New York State ballot on November 8. If passed, the Bond Act will provide money for water systems, flood control, and stemming run-off from farms. It will install renewable energy systems in public buildings like schools and public colleges, and fund electric school buses. It will buy up land for conservation and expand public parks. It will promote environmental justice, as 35-40 % of the funding will go to disadvantaged communities. And it is projected to generate nearly 100,000 jobs. So vote Yes on Proposition 1! Vote Yes for clean water!
