• There’s a lot going on in the Keystone State right now. On Friday, the Pennsylvania Alliance for Retired Americans filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit against the use of drop boxes in Chester County. By intervening, the Alliance aims to defend drop boxes. Find out more here.

• Every county in Pennsylvania is allowed to adopt its own rules for drop boxes. Earlier this month, rural Fulton County voted to ban the use of drop boxes, except on Election Day. With some restricting drop boxes and others refusing to include certain ballots in vote totals, counties have become important players in the fight for democracy.

• Finally, on Thursday the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania heard arguments in a Republican lawsuit challenging cure procedures, an important process that lets voters correct mistakes on their mail-in ballots to ensure their votes are counted. You can find a summary of the hearing here.

Maryland Court Allows Early Counting of Mail-in Ballots To Prevent Delays

• On Friday, a Maryland judge issued an order that will allow election officials to start counting mail-in ballots over a month before Election Day. Now, officials can start counting ballots on Oct. 1 after 8 a.m. instead of waiting until the Wednesday after Election Day. The court’s order will ensure Maryland will have timely election results and certification this year. Read more about the order here.

Lawsuit Requesting Decertification of the 2020 Election Filed in Kansas

• A lawsuit has been filed in Kansas that challenges the results of the 2020 election as well as the use of electronic voting machines and drop boxes. The plaintiffs’ complaint is replete with unfounded assertions — just the latest in a series of lawsuits spreading harmful conspiracy theories and exacerbating the “Big Lie.” Learn more here.
