As we head into the holidays, I want to talk to you about an issue that no family should have to deal with: surprise medical billing. Every year far too many Americans are hit with outrageous medical bills because they were treated by an out-of-network provider or some other circumstances beyond their control.

As someone whose family has been hit with these outrageous surprise bills before, I share the frustration of so many Americans who agree that this is just not fair. In the Senate, I'm fighting to pass legislation that would finally crack down on surprise medical billing. Unfortunately, special interests who profit off this practice have already spent $30 million in dark money attack ads against lawmakers, including me, trying to stop Congress doing something about it.

I want to be clear with you. I am not going to back down on this issue or bow to the pressure. I expect surprise medical billing to be a top healthcare issue in 2020, and I want to get your thoughts and stories about this issue to help me keep up the fight in the Senate to end surprise medical billing.
