“It is very distressing to be unable to feed your children. As a mother, that’s the most distressing thing of all.”

This is what a young mum named Talaso said to me recently. I wanted to share her words with you John, because right now thousands of families like hers urgently need help.

My name is Bante Galgallo, and I am an aid worker working with Caritas Marsabit on a CAFOD supported project in northern Kenya. The drought we are facing now is like nothing we’ve seen before. We need your support to help the families worst hit by the World Food Crisis.
 

When I met Talaso (pictured), she had just given birth to a little boy, called Ali. The drought had killed almost all of the animals she and her husband relied on to earn a living. She didn’t know how she’d be able to feed him and his older brother, Abudoh. 

We are delivering emergency food and water to help people survive. But this crisis won't be fixed overnight. We must plan for the future, so children like Ali can thrive. 

Talaso dreams of sending Ali to school - but she is worried that it will be hard to afford the school fees if the drought continues. Education is so important - it goes beyond helping a child, and sends hope rippling through the entire community.
