In 2006, inspired by my friend and mentor President Barack Obama, I ran for Illinois State Treasurer - and won.
Throughout my tenure, I pursued a progressive agenda that focused on innovative initiatives that reformed and modernized our government - all while improving the financial futures of Illinoisans.
After, in 2011, I served as Chair of the Illinois Community College Board, where I pushed to create a workforce of the 21st century by providing economical, flexible and effective training degrees.
And now, over a decade after my first campaign, I’m running for office again to bring that same wind of change and modernization to the Secretary of State’s office.
If elected, I promise to protect voting rights, strengthen ethics laws, and modernize our government to put constituents first.
