SAN DIEGO -- Paula Whitsell, Chairwoman of the Republican Party of San Diego County was sent today the following press release.
Original Press Release from former Mayor of Chula Vista Shirley Horton
Chula Vista Mayoral Candidate Doesn’t Live in City
Ammar Campa-Najjar and Family are Committing Felony Voter Fraud
Chula Vista, California, September 26, 2022 - California State Law states when someone commits corruption of voting, that person is punishable by imprisonment of up to three years in a county jail. Ammar Campa-Najjar has lied to the voters about where he really lives. Professional Private Investigator and former FBI agent, Lawrence Hamilton, has obtained more than 70 videos and photos that show Campa-Najjar living at a condo, Building 41 West, located on Fifth Avenue in San Diego. Hamilton has agreed to sign an affidavit under penalty of perjury that states he conducted an investigation of Campa-Najjar.
Hamilton found that Campa-Najjar does not live in Chula Vista. He discovered that Campa-Najjar had been living with his girlfriend, Congresswoman Sara Jacobs, every night at the condo for 32 nights straight even when Jacobs was away, never once attempting to stay in Chula Vista.
Chula Vista municipal code states “a person running for Mayor must be a resident of Chula Vista and a registered voter of the City. If someone commits a crime, it needs to be addressed” said David Oyos, President of the Chula Vista Police Officers Association.
According to the County Registrar of Voters, there are eight people who are registered under his voting address, which is a two-roomed condo, and most of them do not even reside there, including Campa-Najjar’s grandmother, Abigail Campa; his mother, Abigail Najjar; and his aunt, Teresa Gonzalez, which all four of them voted in the June 7th Primary Election.
Campa-Najjar has a pattern of misleading voters for his own personal gain by using his family’s addresses to run in different districts; for example, he used his mother’s Jamul address for 2018’s East County's 50th Congressional District, his aunt’s Bonita address for 2020’s California State Assembly race, and now his cousin’s Chula Vista address for 2022’s Chula Vista Mayoral race.
“Campa-Najjar has never served on any City commission, group, board, or even attended a City Council meeting before he decided to run for Mayor and now we find out he doesn’t even live here” said former Elected Official Shirley Horton, who served as 37th Mayor and a California State Assemblywoman.
When it comes to local office, there are certain guidelines that candidates must follow and the simplest of them is: you must be a resident of the city you are planning to represent.
