A deep dive into one of the most important parts of our campaignElissa Slotkin for Congress

Team,

Today, we want to take a bit of a deep dive into one of the most important parts of a campaign: the field program.

Field teams are responsible for the vast majority of a campaign’s direct contact with voters. That can include hosting events, knocking on doors, calling and texting voters, and even helping folks register to vote. It’s a massive undertaking that takes countless hours and the help of some incredible volunteers. With just 43 days until the election, Team Slotkin’s field effort is firing on all cylinders in every community across Michigan’s 7th district. Check out these stats:

Here on Team Slotkin, we’ve not only made it a priority to build a strong in-house field team, but also to build new volunteer networks in the new 7th district. We’ve also intentionally focused on building a student organizer program at Michigan State University with the goal of registering as many new voters as we possibly can.

Elissa’s opponent, on the other hand, is taking a different approach. Right now, Americans for Prosperity, a conservative super PAC, is paying people to knock doors in support of Elissa’s opponent. If this strategy sounds familiar it’s because it’s the same approach he’s using for TV and digital advertising – let the outside super PACs do the talking for him.

Relying on outside groups or corporate interests rather than building in-house programs has been a theme among Michigan Republicans this year. In the spring, half of the Republican gubernatorial candidates were eliminated from running in the primary after failing to submit enough valid signatures to get on the ballot. Many had submitted fraudulent signatures, because they had hired a company to collect signatures for them, rather than hiring a robust field team and training volunteers.

At the end of the day, a strong field team means a strong campaign. As we continue to build our outreach program ahead of Election Day, we’d be grateful if you’d chip in to help get us over the finish line, especially with our September 30th end-of-quarter deadline coming up.
