When I was young, my parents used to tell me that we have to have leaders with a certain level of experience, so that they'll understand the gravity of war. Now that I'm older, I see that that experience has actually created a numbness, in many of our elected officials, to the loss of human life. People shouldn't be dying on the street like this. And I shouldn't have to say that. Congress isn't doing anything at all to help the unhoused. They are leaving states and local government to fend for themselves. But cities and counties are ill equipped to deal with the problem on the scale that it's occurring. They simply don't have budgets large enough. And states are doing what they can, but their budgets aren't large enough either. Congress should have stepped in a LONG time ago! This could be any of us. Most Americans are one emergency away from homelessness. When I am elected, I will prioritize getting people housed. No more status quo. This is not okay. Meanwhile, Trump signed the $738
billion war budget yesterday, which included creating a Space Force, which will undoubtedly cost us trillions of dollars in the long run, and ensures weapons sales to Saudi Arabia and ensures the war in Yemen won't end any time soon.

It was Robin Williams who once suggested that politicians should wear their sponsors on their clothing like NASCAR drivers. My opponent is sponsored by weapons manufacturers, Wall Street firms, drug companies, tobacco, telecom companies, Koch Industries and international law firms. I am sponsored by you. Now I'm going to let you in on a little secret. It's been over 700 days since I first challenged Mike Thompson to debate. And do you know why he has avoided doing that? It's because he is scared of our movement. Because it's bigger than me. It's bigger than Senator Sanders. This is about all of us, trying to transform our system. And you can't change the system if you take its money. Together we ARE going to change the system. We're going to publicly fund elections so that corporations and billionaires can't sway votes the way they want. And we're going to pass single payer healthcare so that everyone will be covered, including mental healthcare, dentistry and hearing aids for seniors. And
we are going to stop drilling for oil and stop fracking natural gas so that we can create the carbon neutral energy system that our planet demands. And we're going to help other countries do that, too. And there's nothing Mr. Thompson can do to stop that, because he can stop a candidate, but he can't stop a movement.

In India, huge amounts of people are protesting the removal of citizenship from 2 million people. This coming on the heels of Modi ending Kashmir's special status and isolating the region from all travel and communication. This is a disturbing development. But tens of thousands of people are protesting fascism and oligarchy in a great many countries. The lamestream media talks a lot about Hong Kong, but did you know that the people in Chile, Iraq, Poland, Venezuela, Brazil, Lebanon, Honduras, France, Bolivia, the United Kingdom are all protesting fascism and oligarchy?

Think you live in a democracy? If you get your news from NBC, CNN, FOX, CBS, ABC, the NY Times, Washington Post, USA Today or any major outlet, you are getting news from a source that is owned by wealthy elites with ties to the U.S. intelligence community. Your government is making war in your name even though 90% of Americans oppose the wars we're currently in, and your government is allowing oil companies to destroy the planet because of the money they get in campaign donations. It's illegal, in some places, to give a blanket to a homeless person and illegal in other places to give food or water to refugees coming out of the desert to cross our southern border. Oh, and the government is watching everyone all the time, through your computer or cell phone cameras, without a warrant.

I met with the Contra Costa County Young Democrats a few days ago. The young lady at the left is Marisol Rubio, who I am supporting for State Senator in district 7. I appreciate the young people that are getting involved. I wasn't nearly as involved, at that age, as many of you are. You are the heart of the movement.
I also spoke to the Napa Democrats earlier this week, as did a staffer from my opponent's campaign. For the second time, Mr. Thompson's campaign has stated that he does not accept corporate money. The logic he is using is that he's accepting money from a PAC, not a corporation, but corporations cannot donate directly so they have to set up a PAC to transfer money to candidates' committees. What he's saying is completely dishonest. This stuff is public information, but he's counting on voters not to do the work to find out the truth. Here is the FEC link to his committee's corporate donors: [link removed]

On a final note, I am a member of Napa Climate Now. I attended the monthly meeting this week. Advocating for policy that combats climate change is the most important work we can be doing. And this is SUCH a great group of people. If you'd like to get involved with Napa Climate Now, send me an email and let me know. I'll forward your email to the appropriate person. I hope to see you at the next meeting (probably in February).

This campaign is a campaign of the people, for the people and by the people. As such, it is funded by individual donations from people just like you. We do not accept corporate donations or money from lobbyists or super PACs.
