Dear Friend,

Exciting news!

Last week, the House passed a sweeping police funding package, including my bipartisan bill, the Invest to Protect Act!

Right now, police departments like Atlantic or Creston are competing with some of the largest departments in the country for federal investments, like the NYPD or Chicago PD.

This makes it difficult for small and mid-sized departments to get funding for updating their equipment, providing additional training for first responders, and retaining staff.

My bill levels the playing field by creating a grant program for smaller departments with fewer than 125 officers. This way, we're bringing more federal resources here to our communities as a vast majority of the departments in the Third District would be eligible.

I've worked hard with Iowa's police chiefs and my colleagues in Congress on this, and I'm glad to see my bill make it over the finish line with support from both sides of the aisle.

In addition to my bill, I also voted to pass other pieces of legislation that will help keep our families, safe, such as the VICTIM Act to support victims of crimes and hire more detectives, the Our Mental Health Justice Act to send unarmed mental healthy professionals to respond to mental health crises, and the Break the Cycle of Violence Act to invest in violence intervention programs.

Each of these bills are much-needed steps towards creating stronger, safer communities, and I'll continue working to support our first responders here in Iowa.

Be well,

Cindy
