I’ll be honest with you, John -- I’m angry.

Last week, Kevin McCarthy rolled out the GOP’s plan if Republicans retake the House in November. This “plan” is chock-full of divisive rhetoric and extremist undertones. What concerns me the most is how this plan will affect our nation’s children -- your children. 

I’ve been a public school teacher for over 20 years. Education is our most powerful tool to stay competitive in the global marketplace, support future generations, and learn to respect one another’s differences. 

Kevin McCarthy and the GOP have already taken a sledgehammer to our children’s future by restricting curriculum, banning books, and funneling money away from our public schools. I’ve witnessed firsthand the damage these policies have rendered. The victims aren’t Democrats -- they’re our children! I will NEVER stand by quietly as our children and their education are threatened.

We need to be investing in our children’s education, not making it the new ground zero for political culture wars.

Children in our district have endured so much these past few years, from remote learning during the pandemic to living in fear of the next school shooting. The last thing students need is another disruption to their education. 

When I am in Congress, I will continue to advocate for quality education for ALL students in the Central Valley and High Desert. I refuse to let our children become political pawns in Kevin McCarthy’s power-grab game.
