Jack, as I mentioned in the email below, the average donation to Daily Kos is just $6.78. Small dollar donations like this is our largest source of revenue.
Unfortunately, we are afraid that we may not be able to make our monthly fundraising goal. We still need to raise $47,334 by the end of September. Can you help us out by donating $5 right now?

Over the last decade we have seen far too many news media outlets have to lay off staff and make cuts—too often at the expense of quality content—or in the case of ThinkProgress disappear entirely.
If Daily Kos were to disappear tomorrow, there would be nothing to take our place. We are the country's largest progressive and independent news and activism hub, but really we are so much more than that. Not only do we deliver the news and provide the tools to have a real impact on elections, policy, and so much more, but we give our community a real voice. This means not only letting readers post comments—a minimal interactive service that most other news outlets are ending—but giving them the ability to publish their own articles, and even to determine which community article appears high up on the front page of our website for an extended period of time. In fact, many of our most widely read articles are written by our community!
While the primary source of revenue for most media outlets is advertising, at Daily Kos, our largest source of income are small donations from our community of readers and activists. This makes us accountable to our grassroots donors, rather than to big corporate advertisers or a small number of wealthy contributors.
Please support Daily Kos by donating $5 today.

Thank you for all you do,

Jack, the average donation to Daily Kos is just $6.78. This is pretty important to us. Why?
The majority of our revenue comes from tens of thousands of Daily Kos readers and activists chipping in just a few bucks at a time. We can't do the work we do day in and day out without it. Please support Daily Kos by donating $6.78 today.

News media outlets have struggled for decades to stay afloat and make ends meet. Some news outlets cut expenses by laying off staff, eliminating departments, or merging with larger corporations, usually, at the cost of quality. Others found a billionaire for a quick infusion of cash, a few became a publicly traded company, while others tried to increase revenue by charging for access to content.
Daily Kos has faced some financial challenges too, but none of these cost-cutting or revenue generating options seemed right. We decided to approach our revenue problems differently: We asked our readers and activists for help by chipping in just a few bucks so we could continue producing the quality of work they had come to expect.
These grassroots contributions now make up nearly half our revenue. Contributions of just a few dollars at a time makes sure that we can pay our bills and staff. But what's more, it makes us accountable to you—not to a billionaire backer, hedge fund, or corporate advertisers. We know that in order to keep operating, we have to fight and deliver for what you believe in.
Daily Kos has not only survived for 20 years, we have thrived! That is because of the Daily Kos community supporting our work a few dollars at a time.
We need to raise $77,736 by the end of this month. Can you continue to support our work by donating just $6.78?
