Dear John
Labour Conference passes motion supporting PR
Labour conference just voted to back proportional representation,
committing the Party to changing the voting system in their next
manifesto
Best for Britain attending Labour
Conference
Best for Britain supporters, just like you John, joined with other
campaigners and activists to call for Labour to adopt a fairer voting
system for UK elections. Thousands of Best for Britain supporters
contacted Labour party activists and politicians, wrote to trade union
delegates, signed petitions and got letters published in local
papers.
The Best for Britain team went first to Unison's conference
earlier this year and successfully campaigned for their memebrs to
adopt PR as official policy. Unison is one of the biggest trade unions
that is affiliated to the Labour Party, so it had a significant voice
in today's vote.
The motion passed a short time ago with the support of the
party membership and with major Labour affiliated unions, including
Unison, also backing the move.
I just want to say THANK YOU. Your support made this
possible.
This is the beginning of a seismic shift in UK politics and the
result of years of tireless work from many within the Labour movement
and outside it who want to fix Britain’s crooked electoral system
which structurally favours the right.
Britain can’t wait any longer for the Labour leadership to
recognise that the current broken system has delivered more than a
decade of Conservative minority rule that has ruined our economy,
gutted our public services and trashed our global reputation. They
must commit to proportional representation for House of Commons
elections in their next manifesto.
I will continue bringing the case for better, fairer elections
to the attention of Labour's leaders. And I will be back in touch soom
to let you know how you can get involved.
Britain can't wait another 5 years for the election after

I shared our new
campaign with you this weekend, featuring stories of ordinary
people around the country who are being failed under the current
system. It was this new campaign which we took to Labour Conference,
to persuade members and delegates to vote for PR. And it is this
campaign we hope will continue to grow now this first step has been
made.
This is a success that you can feel rightly proud to have been
part of. But don't stop now. Ceri, Frank, Carole, Sandra, Hassan and
all those facing the effects of our broken system need us to keep
going.
Thank you for being part of this.
Best wishes,
Naomi Smith CEO, Best for Britain
