At the end of this week, we face one of the most critical fundraising moments of our entire campaign: Our final quarterly FEC deadline. Every three months, my team has to submit fundraising reports and other financial info to the Federal Election Commission, and our fundraising numbers become visible to the public — including the GOP.

I can’t stress this enough: If we don’t post strong fundraising numbers on Friday, Mitch McConnell and his big money donors will take it as a sign of weakness. They could empty some of their $331 million warchest into this seat.

One Republican super PAC is already spending $2.5 million attacking me on TV right now, and others are standing by. They’ll be watching Friday’s fundraising reports to see which campaigns are underfunded or vulnerable.

I’ve always said that I don’t expect to match National Republicans dollar for dollar, but we do need to remain competitive — and be able to fight back when called upon. My team has an ambitious goal in mind, but at last count, we’re about 1,438 donations short of where we need to be.
