John,
It’s easy to get discouraged about the state of our political system: Foreign adversaries continue to launch attacks on our elections, unaccountable “dark money” floods into our politics, and the agency charged with enforcing federal campaign finance laws isn’t able to do its job. Our democracy is in crisis.
This is why Issue One knows that this is the perfect moment to press the reset button on our democracy. The nation is ready for change. With your help, we can build the momentum needed to create a new era of political reform.
We can’t do it alone. We need 150 new donors to sign up today to support the work we’re doing to restore our democracy. Will you become a recurring donor today so we can make 2020 a year of reform and renewal?
Since our founding, Issue One has been laser-focused on enacting lasting political reforms. Here are a few ways you’ve helped us do that:
We worked behind the scenes to get Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to walk back his staunch opposition to election security funding. And, because of our ongoing pressure, Congress just granted $425 million in funding to states to secure their elections from foreign interference.
Because of our efforts, the House Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress was established — and now extended for another year! This committee unanimously sent 29 recommendations to the House to improve Congress and get it working for the American people.
Another sign of progress? We’re driving eight bipartisan bills in the House and Senate. These bills cover everything from increasing transparency and strengthening the Federal Election Commission, to fighting online disinformation and reforming money-in-politics laws.
Our ReFormers Caucus now has over 200 former members of Congress, governors, and Cabinet members among its ranks. The largest group of its kind, they are united to fix our broken political system and are partnering with Issue One to win game-changing reforms on Capitol Hill.
Issue One won the fight to bring Senate campaign finance disclosure into the 21st century. We rallied new bipartisan support behind the Senate Campaign Disclosure Parity Act and at the end of 2018, it became the first piece of bipartisan campaign finance legislation signed into law in over a DECADE. This win shows that change is possible and the time for more reforms is now.
These victories couldn’t happen without you. Because of your support, we’re able to do what it takes day in and day out to return government to the American people.
But there’s much more work to be done. Will you become a recurring donor today and help us build on the progress we’ve made to seize our democracy moment in 2020?
Thank you for your continued support,
Meredith McGehee Executive Director, Issue One
