As your Attorney General, I have championed and defended Colorado’s “red flag” law, which allows police or family members to ask a judge to temporarily remove a firearm from a person who poses a significant risk to themselves or others. The law is saving lives, and I’ll work hard to make sure it's used effectively and responsibly.

To prevent gun violence, we stood with local law enforcement across Colorado to educate the public on the importance of safe gun storage as part of responsible gun ownership, specifically by keeping guns away from young kids and criminals. Safe gun storage not only prevents crimes, it can prevent teen suicide–the leading cause of death for Coloradans between 12 and 24 years old.

I have defended our gun safety laws in court. That includes the red flag law and restrictions on large capacity magazines used in so many mass shootings. Both times, we won. In the face of renewed attacks on these laws by the gun lobby, I will face them, once again, in court.
