Dear John,
September 15th marked the start of Hispanic Heritage Month here in the United States.
The Congressional district I live in—where I’ve lived my entire life—is 68% Hispanic, making it one of the most Latino-heavy in the country. Like many families in the San Fernando Valley, my parents immigrated here in search of a better life to raise their family.
One of my favorite things in the district is its wealth of murals and traditional Mexican art. Plaza Del Valle in Panorama City, in particular, is full of them—there are a handful of them in our new video, below!

Murals are beautiful, but to really honor our Hispanic heritage and culture we need to take care of Hispanic people, too. Like other Latino-majority parts of LA, this is a quickly gentrifying area. Every couple blocks sees new luxury apartments getting built, and longtime residents forced out.
Based on the just-released homeless count numbers, Latinos now make up 44.5% of all homeless people in Los Angeles County, up 26% over the pandemic.

That’s a very troubling trend, an issue that I don’t see our representatives at the federal level paying much attention to at all.
Affordable housing is a big part of my platform, and a big reason why this campaign did so well in 2020. We would fight to expand investments in low-income housing, end speculation and long-term vacancies, fund public housing, and enact universal rent control.
Our culture is alive in our present, and we shouldn’t be left behind or pushed out of our communities.
If you are with me in this fight, please split a contribution between my grassroots campaign and my partner, Brand New Congress now. [[link removed]]

Since 2016 BNC has led the way in advancing popular policies like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal and electing bold progressive fighters. We recruited and elected AOC in 2018 and Cori Bush in 2020. With seven BNC Reps currently in office [[link removed]] , we are growing progressive power in Congress.
This November we’re working to flip multiple red seats, fill open seats with bold progressives, and elect our first BNC Senator by defeating Rand Paul.
Pitch in today and join us as we take over Congress and return power to the people.
