I’ll be honest with you: When Gabby and I got married, I never thought this is the way things would turn out.

I never thought I’d run for public office. She was the elected official in the family — and on the International Space Station, I was about as far from Congress as you can get. 

I never thought more than 1 million people would contribute and volunteer to help elect me.

And I never thought that I’d need to ask supporters to do more than that to defend this seat.

But I need to ask you to do more. We are facing millions of dollars in attack ads, the former president says beating me is the first step to “taking back America,” and my opponent is a GOP-extremist who supports a national abortion ban.

So, please. When you woke up today you probably didn’t think you’d make a donation to my re-election campaign, but I really need you if we’re going to hold this seat.
