Did you hear, friend?

Nearly 3,000 packaged foods – including Fruit Loops and Apple Jacks – contain BHT and BHA. Since alerting the public last week, we’ve had an incredible outpouring of support. More than 12,000 people have already weighed in, but we haven’t heard from you: [[link removed]]

Should the FDA allow BHT and BHA in our food?

Multiple studies have linked BHT to tumor growth, hormone disruption and reproductive harm, discrediting General Mills’ claims that the preservative is safe. The EU, Canada and Japan all strictly regulate BHT and BHA in food, but the FDA refuses to take action. Take our quick survey by midnight tonight and help EWG BAN harmful food additives like BHT and BHA! [[link removed]]

Thanks for your feedback, friend.

Subject: Hormone-disrupting chemical in cereal

Friend,

General Mills claims that BHT is “a safe way” to help cereals stay fresh. But nothing could be further from the truth.

Multiple studies have linked BHT to tumor growth, hormone disruption and reproductive harm. BHA, a preservative that’s chemically similar, is a known carcinogen, according to California state scientists. Both of these chemicals have been subject to severe restrictions in the EU, Canada and Japan.

Even so, many popular foods in the U.S. contain either BHT or BHA. According to EWG’s Food Scores database, 2,830 products contain BHT, including popular cereals like Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Froot Loops. Outrageous!

EWG is fighting to get all harmful additives like BHA and BHT out of our food, but we need your help to do it. Do you have time to complete our short survey before midnight tonight? Your response will help EWG take a stand against health-harming food additives. [[link removed]]
