Hi John,
You know what I’m like: if I get things wrong, I’ll say so.
Well, I got something wrong.
That’s what I said to the Senate.
Back when the tax cuts went through the parliament in 2019, I
voted for them.
At the time I said, if the situation changes between then and
when the tax cuts come into effect, we should change the policy.
That’s my mistake. My mistake was believing we’d have a
government that would be responsible enough to read the room and
realise we don’t have the budget to blow a hole in the budget.
Look: I’m not against tax cuts.
But we’ve got inflation right now, and that’s going to get worse
if these cuts come in. So you might not get the benefit of a tax
cut (particularly if you’re earning less than $200,000 a year),
but you sure will feel the hit when you go to pay for groceries
or fuel.
Inflation is a tax on everything, and it gets paid by everyone.
Everyone with a savings account. Everyone on a pension. Everyone
who’s got a mortgage.
We all pay for inflation, and these tax cuts are going to throw
fuel on the inflation fire.
There’s a time and place for tax cuts.
Now’s not the time.
I’m honest enough to say I got things wrong. The PM has to be
honest enough to say he got things wrong too, by agreeing to back
them in at the last election.
Can you tell the PM to scrap these tax cuts?

He’s worried about breaking an election promise. But he should.
We didn’t have any inflation when he made that promise. Now we
do. And if he keeps it, we’re all going to pay for it.
Tell the PM: now’s not the time for more inflation!

Thanks mate!
