From Barnet, Camden, Haringey, Enfield and Islington Community Mental Health Services:-

Please join them on 30 September at Hornsey Vale Community Centre, Mayfield Road, London N8 9LP in Haringey, 1-4pm, to learn about the way they are transforming community mental health services across Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington.

Their Community Mental Health Transformation Programme is working across five boroughs, Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington. Staff from each will be at the event to talk about the work that they are doing and listen to your feedback and your thoughts on what they need to do to make services better for you; they’ll also have some small discussion groups, they’ll be asking for your feedback, and they’ll be serving refreshments.

In this workshop you will build a knowledge of recovery and well-being in mental health and improve your understanding of how the mental health service works. How to use the CHIME (Connectedness, Hope, Identity, Meaning and Empowerment) model as a practical recovery tool to maintain your recovery and well-being will be explored.

Mental Health of Women Seeking Support (From Dr Jessica Taylor), Thursday 29 September, 10.00am - 12.00pm

VictimFocus are pleased to present and discuss findings from their report which portrays the experiences of 395 women who sought support for their mental health after they had been subjected to sexual violence.

This session is free and open to anyone working with, or with an interest in women and girls subjected to abuse and trauma.

The methodology, findings and ideas will be presented before a discussion by the lead author.

Addictive Eaters Anonymous online meetings, Thursdays 6.30 - 7.30am and Fridays 7.00 - 8.00pm

Addictive Eaters Anonymous (AEA) is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from addictive eating.

AEA has members who have suffered from anorexia, bulimia and binge eating. Many have been underweight, overweight or obese; others were people of average weight yet suffered with an obsession with food. Members may have used exercise and other substances to try and control their weight. Before coming to AEA, members found that they were powerless over food, and unable to stop the food obsession.

New study finds the pros and cons of owning a dog on your mental health… and it’s not all good (From Metro)

While it’s a popular perception that canines are good for our wellbeing, most published studies showing the benefits specifically relate to therapy dogs.

As it turns out, there has been a lack of research proving any links between simply owning a dog as a pet and increased happiness.

Swapping 30 minutes of social media per day with exercise benefits mental health (From Medical News Today)

Replacing 30 minutes of social media use per day with physical activity can enhance emotional well-being and reduce stress, German researchers say.
The benefits of exercise lingered as much as 6 months after the end of their study.
Participants who cut back on social media and exercised more experienced greater happiness and less stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reduced social media use also correlated with less tobacco consumption.

We are an independent support group, run by ex service users, for service users, their carers and supporters.

Nearly all of our directors and staff have lived experience of disability, including mental health issues and/or long-term health conditions.

We believe that learning to use our lived experience for social change is a skill. We have become experts in harnessing the lived experience of our staff, members, volunteers and the people who use our services to design and deliver higher quality, more person-centred services.
