“I never thought in a million years that you could make so many things in the microwave.” —Angelina
If you were sent to prison, what meals would you miss the most? The juicy cheeseburger from your favorite diner? Your grandma's homemade apple pie? Prisons aren't well known for their food, but that doesn't keep incarcerated men and women from coming up with creative ways to recreate their favorite dishes.
Angelina, a prisoner in Minnesota, put together a prison recipe book of tasty treats and eats made from commissary items. Her prison cookbook is a community effort. The recipes come from many different people and are "tried-and-true."
