John,
Dis- and misinformation is unique in its ability to evolve and adapt to its environment. As a phenomenon that has been strictly bound to the internet, DisMis has found a way to spread via memes.
What started as a fun internet trend, was quickly weaponized in the run-up to the 2016 election and continues to be used as a tool to spread DisMis. In fact, it was its adaptability that enabled bad-faith actors to use it to manipulate media, skew political discourse, and ultimately radicalize those that stormed the Capitol on January 6th.
It’s up to us to prevent this from happening again.
The George Washington Initiative wants to prevent DisMis from finding new ways to spread, and we need your help. Will you chip in a $10 contribution today to support our mission?
