Team,
Elissa’s first debate just aired! There was one moment that you may see trending on Twitter -- check out the viral clip where Elissa's opponent makes it clear he opposes any exceptions for abortion.
Unfortunately, there was an issue with the livestream, so if you weren’t able to catch it live you can watch the full debate here on the WDIV Youtube channel: CLICK HERE.
Here were the key takeaways:
Elissa’s opponent confirmed that he does not support any exceptions for abortion. The moderator asked him point-blank whether he supported exceptions for rape and incest—not once, not twice, but four times. And every time, his robotic response was the same: “I’m pro-life.”
Elissa is Team USA when it comes to jobs, but her opponent doesn’t want to pick a side. We don’t need to remind you that Elissa’s opponent voted *5 times* against the bipartisan GM deal that brought 5,000 jobs to his backyard. In the debate, he presented no plan to keep jobs and investment in the United States. Elissa made her stance on this issue perfectly clear:
Elissa is the only candidate even trying to bring prices down for Michigan families. Elissa is directly attacking the costs that families face every day. She wrote legislation to suspend the federal gas tax, pushed the Biden administration to use our Strategic National Reserves and get tough on oil-producing partners, and voted to lower the price of prescription drugs. Her opponent couldn’t offer a single concrete proposal of how he’d tackle rising prices outside of blaming the administration.
Bottom line, the theme of this first debate was: are you someone who only repeats political talking points fed by consultants, or are you going to knuckle down and get to work? Elissa made her priority perfectly clear.
If you enjoyed the debate, consider chipping in here as Elissa runs in one of the most competitive (and the MOST expensive) House races in the country.
And make sure you check out Elissa’s second debate, which will air live on WLNS, Channel 6 in Lansing (we’ll make sure to follow up with a link if you want to follow online) on October 6th at 7:00 PM.
