It is an honor to represent our district in Congress. My team and I are always here to help. Please feel free to contact my office at any time with any questions or concerns you may have. THE HAPPENINGS IN CONGRESS Blackwell School Bill Goes to the President's Desk to Be Signed into Law For decades, the Blackwell School has been an important piece of history for the City of Marfa, Texas. This week, the House of Representatives voted to pass my bill, the Blackwell School National Historic Site Act, which establishes the Blackwell School as a National Historic Site and cements its rich, complicated legacy for generations to come. This legislation will now head to the President’s desk to be signed into law. Click here to read my full press release, and watch my floor speech below. Commitment to America Democrats have spent the past two years promoting policies that have made the country less safe and less prosperous, with no plan to fix it. But Republicans do. I joined House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23), Republican Whip Steve Scalise (LA-01), House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (NY-21) and other Members of the House Republican Conference to introduce the House GOP’s “Commitment to America.” We are committed to an economy that is strong, a nation that is safe, a future that is free, and a government that is accountable. TX-23 IN DC My D.C. office is always open to constituents of TX-23 - whether to facilitate a tour of the U.S. Capitol or discuss ways I can advocate for them in Congress. See below for highlights on some of my visits this week. Met With Skills USA Earlier this week, I met with students from across Texas 23 with Skills USA. This organization empowers its young members to become exceptional workers and leaders. During our visit, we discussed the impact Skills USA has had on the lives of these members and ways we can work together to ensure America has a skilled workforce for generations to come. Discussed Education On Military Installations As a Navy veteran, I know how important it is for students on military installations to receive the best education available. This week I met with representatives from Lackland ISD, Sam Houston ISD, and Randolph Field ISD on behalf of the National Association of Federally Impacted Schools. We discussed a number of ways I can help them with their mission in Congress. Farming and Ranching Needs in TX-23 Texas’ producers work to feed and clothe America. That’s why it was great to meet with representatives from the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association this week. It is important that we address the issues faced by farmers and ranchers so they are able to meet nationwide demands. Advocating for Students' Success in Congress Education is one of the most important things we can give our children, but kids can’t succeed in school without access to the right tools. This week, I met with Head Start program leaders to discuss how I can continue advocating for them in Congress. As a father of 6 and former San Antonio Head Start Policy Council Member, I know firsthand how critical these programs are to helping our children put their best foot forward every day. UPCOMING OFFICE HOURS Navigating federal casework can be tricky. That's why my team hosts monthly mobile office hours around the district to make sure everyone has access to the resources they need. Our last round of office hours for the month of September is going to be in Reagan County. See below for details. My team and I are always available to assist you.
