John,
He's always been a Republican in all but name. Now he's making it official.
Rep. Jeff Van Drew (NJ-02) just switched parties to officially become a Republican, pledging his "undying support" to Donald Trump at the White House this week.
Van Drew's move is a flat-out betrayal of voters in his district. It also sets up a battle royale for this seat in 2020, one that will attract attention from grassroots donors nationwide.
But the corrupt local Democratic machine and the DCCC have already failed at this once. We think that grassroots supporters deserve a better option than seeing their donations go to committees and funds that could just end up electing yet another machine-chosen Republican in disguise.
That's why today we are proud to launch WFP's Defeat Van Drew Fund to elect a people-powered progressive to this seat. Every dollar raised to this fund will go towards defeating this turncoat in 2020 — and making sure we send a Working Families Democrat to Congress in his place. Can you become a founding donor today?

For decades, Jeff Van Drew has been a Republican disguised as a Democrat.
He had a 100% rating from the NRA, voted against marriage equality, and even championed a tax cut for yacht owners. That's why local grassroots progressives opposed his nomination in 2018.
But George Norcross, his South Jersey Democratic machine, and the DCCC took a look at this same record and thought he would make a terrific Democratic candidate. So terrific that they engineered his rise to Congress in 2018.
They were 100% wrong. They ended up electing a Trump Republican to Congress. We can't let the same thing happen again in 2020.
We already know we can't count on the machine to pick a candidate that represents our values. So we need to do it ourselves.
Become a founding donor to WFP's Defeat Van Drew Fund, and let's make sure we not only defeat Jeff Van Drew but replace him with a progressive in 2020.

The outcome of this fight will end up saying a lot about the future of both the Democratic Party and our progressive movement nationally.
That's why Working Families Party members in NJ and nationwide are already rolling up our sleeves to take back our country from Republicans in 2020 — and any Democrats who act like them.
In solidarity,
Sue Altman
State Director
New Jersey Working Families
Quick reminder, John — the Working Families Party's biggest fundraising deadline of the year is on December 31st, and we've set ambitious $105,000 goal. Can you chip in today and help us reach it?
