Andrew Votes To Provide Law Enforcement With Resources and Funding Needed to Combat Rising Crime
This week. Andrew was proud to cast his vote in favor of two pieces of legislation that will bolster law enforcement and improve public safety: H.R. 6448, the Invest to Protect Act of 2022 and H.R. 5768 the VICTIM Act. Both bills passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support, and would provide grant funding to law enforcement to address shortages in staffing, equipment, and technology that has hamstrung law enforcement officers’ ability to keep our communities safe. Standing by our law enforcement community and ensuring they have the resources to keep our communities safe is and will always be a top priority for Andrew in Congress.

President Biden on Sept. 15 signed an executive order setting cybersecurity and other priorities for the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States as it reviews transactions involving “foreign persons, particularly those from competitor or adversarial nations,” interested in investing in the United States...On the GOP side of the aisle, House Homeland Security cyber subcommittee ranking member Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) said, 'Our nation’s foreign adversaries are firing on all cylinders when it comes to cyber warfare. The U.S. must use every tool at our disposal to protect American economic and national security.' Garbarino said, 'This Executive Order is the first step in ensuring U.S. foreign investment prioritizes cyber risk mitigation. I look forward to seeing how the Committee implements these new cybersecurity factors.'

CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Clearing up IRS Tax Return Delays
A Brightwaters resident contacted our office regarding a situation she was experiencing with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). For tax years 2017 - 2019 she was due refunds and didn't submit her returns timely because she understood she had up to 3 years to file returns where a refund was due. In April 2021 she filed all past year returns but was having trouble receiving her returns. Andrew's casework team was able to secure her more than $13K in tax returns.

Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need for the federal government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case.
KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS
Andrew Urges Congress To Bring Transparency To Migrant Relocation Process
This week, Andrew spoke on the House Floor to urge Congress to take up legislation that would require the Biden Administration to notify local officials before illegal immigrants may be placed in their jurisdiction and would provide governors with the authority to refuse the placement. Since Joe Biden took office, over 1 million illegal immigrants have been resettled across the United States.
Long before border state governors started busing migrants to Sanctuary Cities so they might share the burden of this crisis, President Biden was putting them on flights and buses in the dead of night and sending them to communities, like Westchester here in New York, without a word of warning to the people who live there or the officials who would become responsible for them. To date, the Administration has refused all requests for transparency and accountability regarding these resettlements. Andrew urged the House to act and immediately to consider legislation to require transparency and accountability of the Administration for the relocation of illegal immigrants throughout the United States, and to put the power to oversee these relocations in the hands of the people in those communities which are most affected by it.
Andrew Vote To Support Specialized Services For The Deaf-Blind Community
Andrew recently voted to reauthorize funding for the Helen Keller National Center (HKNC) which has empowered people who are deaf-blind to live, work, and thrive in the community of their choice for nearly five decades. The HKNC facility in Sands Point, New York, has admirably served deaf-blind communities and supported those who care for and work with them. Since coming to Congress, Andrew signed letters in support of funding the HKNC for fiscal year 2022 and for fiscal year 2023. Helen Keller National Center Reauthorization Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives with broad bipartisan support. This bipartisan legislation would help the HKNC continue its service to the deaf-blind community.
Andrew Works To Combat Iran-backed terrorist organization
This week, the House of Representatives passed a bill Andrew is proud to cosponsor, H.Res. 558, the Designating Hizballah as a Terrorist Organization Resolution. Hizballah is an Iran-backed terrorist organization that America's greatest ally in the region, Israel, considers its most serious and immediate military threat. While the U.S. recognizes both the military and political wings of the Hizballah as part of a terrorist organization, currently the European Union only places Hizballah’s military wing on its list of sanctioned terrorist organizations. The Designating Hizballah as a Terrorist Organization Resolution would urge the European Union to designate the Hizballah in its entirety as a terrorist organization.
