My first daughter, Caroline, was born the summer after Columbine.

Becoming a father was the greatest joy of my life, but against the backdrop of that tragedy and the utter inaction of Congress, joy was tempered by fear and anxiety. I still feel it today.

Because as Caroline and her sisters, Halina and Anne, grew up, our schools, our movie theaters, and even our houses of prayer were shattered by gun violence again, and again, and again. And our Congress failed to act again, and again, and again.

That’s why I need your help getting back to the Senate: To protect and build a better future for my children and yours.

I’m dismayed that my younger girls spend time practicing active shooter drills when they should be learning and playing.

I’m heartbroken that the natural beauty I explored with my family is being ravaged by drought and scarred by man-made climate change.

I’m keenly aware that my generation may be the first to leave our children with less opportunity than our parents left us.

But I don’t think all hope is lost. I don’t think our system is too broken to fix. For the sake of our children, we must build opportunity for every American and restore integrity to our government.

This year in Congress, we finally passed common sense gun safety legislation and made the largest investment in fighting climate change in American history.

When we passed the Inflation Reduction Act , I called Caroline at college to tell her we had finally done something on climate. I always make my team take the word ‘proud’ out of speeches because it makes me sound like a politician, but I’ll tell you what: I was proud to make that call to my daughter.

And I’m even prouder of the women my three girls are growing into.

So I’ll close with a humble ask: Today — on National Daughters Day — please make a donation to keep me fighting for my children and yours. We’re finally delivering results for the next generation, but there’s so much more we still need to do.
