John —
Last month, we pulled off a huge victory for gun safety in Virginia — we flipped the Virginia General Assembly by electing a Gun Sense Majority in the House of Delegates and State Senate. Everytown and Moms Demand Action were a huge part of our victory.
I am the first Muslim elected to the Virginia State Senate. I'm so proud that voters are giving me the opportunity to serve them and give a more powerful voice for marginalized communities across Virginia. And Moms Demand Action volunteers were with our campaign every step of the way. Together, we made phone calls, knocked on doors, and texted voters in my district right up to polls closing. The tireless activism of Moms Demand Action volunteers fuels the kind of landmark election results we had in November.
Our victories across Virginia in 2019 were huge wins for gun safety and for everyone in the Commonwealth. In 2020, we will work to pass stronger gun laws and reduce gun violence in communities across Virginia. Everytown and Moms Demand are a critical part of that work. Donate to Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Moms Demand Action today to keep the movement to end gun violence strong in 2020.
In our most competitive districts in Virginia, polling found that gun safety was the top issue bringing voters to the polls. We know this is an issue important to so many Americans, and we keep seeing it's a winning issue at the ballot box. In 2018, we elected a Gun Sense Majority to the U.S. House of Representatives, and this year Virginia elected a General Assembly controlled by lawmakers that want to pass stronger gun laws. The change in Virginia made it clear to gun lobby-backed politicians: if you refuse to act in the face of tragic gun violence, voters will replace you.
I'm looking forward to passing gun safety laws in Virginia, and seeing all the amazing work Everytown and Moms Demand Action will do across the country next year. Support the movement to end gun violence in America with a contribution today >>
