I’m writing today to ask if you would be willing to make a contribution to my re-election campaign.

But before I ask for your help raising the last $12,202 we need to hit our July fundraising goal, I’d like to fill you in on just how far we’ve come.

We don’t have to look too far back to remember how it felt to have a representative who was afraid to meet constituents and refused to be accountable to voters.

And it wasn't that long ago that our district's representative was more committed to dismantling our healthcare system and blocking common sense gun violence prevention measures than he was to creating a more equitable economy.

A representative who was more passionate about rejecting the science of climate change than taking responsible steps toward protecting our shared environment.

As you already know, we've come a long way in a short time.

Since taking office, my team and I have worked to restore integrity to this role and redirect the privileges of this office away from rigid ideology and toward building a more cooperative, more compassionate approach to public service. I’ve been working hard to represent the people of our district, and that means, first and foremost, writing, championing and passing legislation that addresses the problems facing our country and our citizens. With my freshmen colleagues in Congress, we’re proving people can, should, and must expect more from their representatives.

But you also know that we didn’t build a grassroots effort that won what the pundits called “unwinnable” overnight. It took months of building budgets, connecting with constituents, making calls, knocking doors, holding events, and hitting daily, weekly, and monthly fundraising goals to cross the finish line victorious. In a few days, we close the books on another one of these fundraising goals, but John, we still have to make progress towards our July 31st goal.

To be exact, we’re working to raise $12,202 by the end of the month -- which is why I’m coming to you now. Will you consider making a donation so we can reach our July target and pass another milestone together?
