This is how we strengthen our movement heading into 2020:

John,

As 2019 and this decade draw to a close, I wanted to thank you so much for your support of Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund this past year and since our founding almost eight years ago.

Whether it’s through your activism or generous financial support, every single one of ATF Action Fund’s over 750,000 online supporters plays a critical role in holding our elected officials accountable and demanding a Fair Share Tax System that works for all of us, not just the wealthy few.

The progressive agenda can’t succeed unless we create a tax system that raises trillions of dollars more from the rich and corporate America in coming years.

Fair Share Taxes are critical to closing the income and wealth gaps between the rich and the rest of us. And without Fair Share Taxes we’ll lack the revenue needed to strengthen Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and to make new investments in healthcare for everyone, education, housing, childcare, infrastructure and clean renewable energy.

In our continuing effort to build a more just and prosperous future for all Americans, we rely on supporters like you.

Below are highlights from our activities this year and our agenda for the year ahead. Most important in 2020, we have the chance to turn the elections into a referendum on tax fairness: a clear choice between candidates who support more tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, and those of us who know it’s time to make them pay their fair share.

So please make a generous end-of-year contribution to Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund to strengthen our movement in 2020 and build a tax system and an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.

In 2019, we planted the flag for Fair Share Taxes.

  • A report released last spring by our sister organization, Americans for Tax Fairness, proposes the most comprehensive agenda to date of progressive tax reforms. The report details the Trump tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations needing repeal and proposes major new reforms to raise $10 trillion for America’s critical needs.
  • ATF Action Fund is helping shape the tax-reform platforms of Democratic presidential candidates. Using the ATF report for guidance, candidates have proposed the most sweeping and progressive tax agenda in decades, ranging from a reversal of the corporate handouts at the center of the Trump-GOP tax law, to a wealth tax on the super-rich, to a new system ensuring wealthy investors pay the same tax rate on investment income as they’d pay on salaries and wages.
  • We launched a website to track the tax plans of Democratic presidential candidates to allow voters like you to compare candidates and to spur competition between them.
  • We are working with leading members of Congress to craft tax-reform legislation that can pass the House of Representatives next year and form the basis of a progressive tax reform blueprint for 2021 if progressives are successful in the 2020 elections.

And we’ll be even busier next year. Here’s what your contribution will help us do in 2020 to achieve big results in 2021:

  • Win a mandate for our progressive tax reform agenda in the 2020 elections. From the race for the White House to the contests for the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, we need progressive victories to achieve progressive tax reform and raise the funds necessary to strengthen Medicare and Social Security, invest in education, rebuild the nation’s crumbling infrastructure and confront the global climate emergency.
  • Continue to prosecute the case against the 2017 Trump-GOP tax cuts, just like we did successfully in the 2018 elections when key authors of the GOP tax law were defeated. This month is the two-year anniversary of the Trump-GOP tax scam, and we just launched a major initiative to educate the public about this massive special-interest giveaway. Trump will try to run on his tax cuts and has even announced he will double-down and make more tax cuts a centerpiece of his reelection campaign.[1]
  • Mobilize progressive forces behind the Fair Share Taxes agenda and win the message war in support of it. Republicans will as always try to portray their opponents as “tax and spend” Democrats. We’ll urge progressives in response to proudly promote “Fair Share Taxes”—it’s not only good policy but good politics as well (all the polls agree!), and the kind of aggressive advocacy we’ll need to steamroll the Washington corporate lobby in 2021 and beyond.

To do all of this, we need your help. That’s why we are asking you to provide a generous year-end donation to Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund today to make Fair Share Taxes a reality tomorrow. Please give generously.

Have a great holiday season and a happy and healthy New Year.

Best wishes for 2020,

Frank Clemente
Executive Director
