As of Thursday, only 38% of Puerto Rico had their power restored following the damage from Hurricane Fiona.
Nearly 360,000 Puerto Ricans were experiencing intermittent water service or no service at all as of Thursday evening, and more than 800 people have been housed in temporary shelters.
In order to support Puerto Ricans suffering from this climate disaster, we identified two organizations who are working with a coalition of partners across the island. Together, we’ve raised more than $30,000 for relief efforts.
We know that in addition to immediate relief, we must build power to fight for the long term investment Puerto Ricans deserve. That’s why we’re excited to support the Hurricane Fiona Community Respond Fund.

The Fiona Community Response Fund is led by a coalition of community organizations who are working on immediate response to fulfill Puerto Rico’s needs over both the short and long term. It is a partnership of approximately 25 organizations including the Maria Fund, Taller Salud, Ayuda Legal Puerto Rico, Institutio Agroecologia, Campamento contra las cenizas de Peñuelas, Étnica, and others.
As our climate becomes more unpredictable, our ability to overcome these challenges depends on our capacity for selflessness and caring for one another.
Whether it’s a winter storm in Texas, a fire in Jackson Heights, or a climate disaster in Puerto Rico, this movement has always stepped up in the moments that matter most.
