Dear Friend --

Howdy - my name’s Ella Teevan, and I’m your brand new staffer at East Bay DSA! At our last General Meeting, the membership approved hiring me as a part-time staff organizer for the chapter. I’m honored that you and my fellow members have entrusted me with helping our chapter grow.

Why is it important to have staff? Because we’ve got a lot to win - and a lot to lose. The election is just six weeks away, and we’ve got a fighting chance to put socialists in office. In Oakland, our endorsed School Board candidates will stand up to the billionaire privatizers who want to turn public education into their own profits. In Richmond, our endorsees will defend people and the planet from the corporate polluter Chevron. But we know the capitalists will pull every trick they can to keep socialists from winning power, at the ballot, in the workplace, and in the streets. And to stand a chance against them, we’ve got to be organized. That means building East Bay DSA into a powerhouse that can channel our people power into electoral and labor fights - and that’s exactly what staff can do.

Here’s a little about me: I started organizing on the UC Berkeley campus in 2011. I was fired up to join East Bay DSA after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won her primary in 2018, just as my own workplace was unionizing. I’ve worked in climate organizing, nonprofit communications, and union staff, so I’m excited to bring my fundraising and administrative skills to our chapter while preserving the democratic nature that makes us unique.

In our chapter, I was an eager Bernie canvasser, and I’ve served on many of the committees that make the chapter run, from Operations to Political Education. But more than that, East Bay DSA is my political home. Our chapter is full of brilliant, fierce, and principled organizers, and I’ve been lucky to work with, and learn from, many of you. If we haven’t had the chance to work together yet, I’m excited to meet you!

So stay tuned, because you’ll likely be hearing from me a lot more over the coming months. Let’s build an organization that will make the ruling class tremble.

Solidarity,

Ella Teevan

East Bay DSA

P.S. Excited to grow a chapter that can fight the capitalists and win for working people? East Bay DSA is entirely member-funded. We don’t take billionaire cash, so our work depends entirely on people like you. Help us put socialists on the School Board and City Councils next month - become a monthly donor right now >> <[link removed]>
