Misinformation spreads at an alarming rate, and while social media is largely to blame, top-rated networks like Fox News, Newsmax, and OAN are just as guilty.
At the height of the pandemic, these networks were responsible for promoting false claims about COVID-19 vaccines and treatment. A recent poll found that people who relied on Fox News for coronavirus information were just as likely to believe conspiracy theories from OAN.
And this isn’t exclusive to the pandemic. People who trusted these networks for news coverage were also more likely to believe the 2020 election was stolen.
Team, if you’ve been paying attention, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
The George Washington Initiative is working to locate and subdue dis- and misinformation at its roots to prevent it from being echoed by these networks. Will you show your support for our initiative by chipping in $10 or whatever you can tonight?
