John,
House Republicans just released a new campaign plank they call the “Commitment to America.” In it, they promise to “Save and strengthen Social Security and Medicare.” But they don’t offer any more details than that.
Sounds good, right? After all, we all love Social Security and Medicare.
Here’s the problem: Republican politicians don’t see Social Security and Medicare the same way you and I do. They believe Social Security and Medicare are problems to be solved, not solutions to the problem of economic instability for older Americans and people with disabilities.
That means that when Republicans try to “save” Social Security, their priority isn’t protecting people from economic harm, it’s cutting benefits until our Social Security system is small enough to drown in a bathtub.
We’re not going to stand by while Republicans destroy our Social Security system. Rush a membership donation to Social Security Works today!
How do we know this? Because they’ve told us over and over and over again―even though they sometimes claim that they misspoke.
The man in charge of electing Republicans to the Senate, Rick Scott[2] has a radical plan to let Social Security and Medicare expire in just 5 years. This plan has been endorsed by Republican Senators like Ron Johnson and Marco Rubio. And it’s no wonder―when Rubio ran for President, he supported cutting Social Security benefits, and Johnson recently said Social Security was “set up improperly.” Are these the people you trust to ‘save’ Social Security and Medicare?
Generations of Americans have built our Social Security system brick-by-brick over 87 years. And we’re not going to let Republicans destroy it.

Democrats have plans that actually help Social Security. They extend the Social Security trust fund for another 75 years by making the wealthy pay their fair share, and expand benefits for people on Social Security. This shows that Democrats’ bottom line isn’t just numbers on a spreadsheet, but making sure that Social Security works to keep people out of poverty.
We’re making sure that every voter knows that Social Security is on the ballot in 2022. Thanks for fighting with us.
