John,
In an important election year like this one, time always seems to fly by once we pass Labor Day — and this year is no different! In our September newsletter, you’ll find all the updates you need now that we’re less than 50 days out from Election Day.
PRIMARY SEASON IS OVER
With primary season officially over — and the general election less than 7 weeks away — we’d like to highlight some of our most recent primary wins:
At the end of August, WFP candidates in New York and Florida faced off in a number of closely watched Democratic primaries. In Florida, Maxwell Frost won his primary in Florida’s 10th Congressional district! He was the 8th WFP-endorsed, non-incumbent Congressional candidate to win his primary this election cycle.
In New York, WFP candidates for Congress and State Senate had a big night up and down the ballot. And in the face of a flood of outside spending from real estate and billionaires, we expanded our progressive bloc in the New York State Senate. These candidates — some incumbents and some new challengers including long-time organizers — will represent working families and continue to push for much-needed change.
Earlier this month, voters in Delaware rejected the status quo and helped WFP champions win their primaries in city council, state house, and state senate races across the state.
This progressive wave didn’t come out of nowhere — each and every vote was hard-earned. Volunteers sent 7,000 texts to voters across the state ahead of the primary, and starting in 2020, the DE WFP hosted a weekly campaign meeting with candidates and their staff to provide strategic support.
In Rhode Island, WFPers Cherie Cruz and Victoria Gu won their state house primaries. These were not easy primaries to win, but their respective advocacy and organizing experience helped connect with voters. Overall, this is a great step forward for WFP in the state.
This primary season brought dozens of wins for our party and movement — now, we need all hands on deck as our WFP champions face off against Republicans and billionaire super PACs in just a few weeks.
