Hi there,

While impeachment proceedings may have covered much of the news the past few days, I wanted to make sure you were updated on something that affects families across Massachusetts.

This week, the House voted on an important piece of legislation – the Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Localities Act – which would help lower taxes for middle class families in our communities through three main changes:
  • Increase the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap for married couples from $10,000 to $20,000
  • Repeal the SALT deduction cap for 2020 and 2021
  • Increase the tax deduction for educators' out-of-pocket classroom expenses and create a deduction for first responders' expenses
The current cap has been hurting middle class families in Massachusetts since Republicans passed it in 2017.

Its repeal would help support strong schools, first responders, and other vital services in our communities.

Friends, you sent me to Congress to fight for working families – and today I am proud to stand with my colleagues in following through on my promise to you. I look forward to supporting more reforms that lift burdens on our hardworking friends and neighbors.

Onward,

Lori
