Dear john,

I hope that you are enjoying cooler temperatures as we welcome the start of fall! Congress was in session again this week; here are some of my highlights from Capitol Hill:

Honoring National Recovery Month

September is National Recovery Month, and Congress "went purple" this week to celebrate Recovery Month. Last year, nearly 108,000 Americans lost their lives to drug overdoses. It's a record we don't want to break. As a member of the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force, I am proud to stand with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to spread awareness and support those in recovery. If you are struggling, remember that recovery is possible. You can find resources at www.samhsa.gov/find-treatment.

Standing Up Against Violence

This week, the House passed the Break the Cycle of Violence Act, legislation that will help build safer communities and make investments in effective community-based violence reduction initiatives. For more on this legislation, please see this release from my office.

Honoring Those Who Served

I am still looking to recognize more Vietnam War veterans during my upcoming Vietnam War Pinning Ceremony. If you are a Vietnam War veteran or an immediate family member, you may be eligible to be recognized. Please consider applying to participate in this ceremony.
