#LowcountryFirst Pass In Review | September 23, 2022 Another Busy Week in Washington Good afternoon and Happy Friday! It’s been another incredibly busy week in Washington, DC working to represent you all back in the Lowcountry. Let’s take a look back at what we worked on this week and look ahead at what’s to come. On Tuesday, we started the day with a classified briefing on the situation in Ukraine. The brave men and women there are true fighters for democracy and are fighting courageously to defend their country. Later in the morning, we participated in an Oversight and Reform Committee markup meeting. During this meeting, we had the opportunity to discuss the alleged corruption of the Biden family and request information related to the family’s business dealings. Over 150 transactions from the family and their associates have been flagged as suspicious and my colleagues on the oversight committee feel we should take time to look deeper into these concerning actions. In the early afternoon we met with my good friend General Walters, president of The Citadel. It was great to catch up with him and learn about all the great things happening at my alma mater. During votes on Tuesday, we passed the Bipartisan Human Trafficking Prevention Act. As an original co-sponsor of this bill, our office has been committed to getting it across the finish line and taking this important step to help combat the epidemic of human trafficking. The bill requires the number for the Human Trafficking Hotline to be posted at all USA Ports of Entry, train stations, trains, busses, bus stations, airports, and more. Even something as simple as knowing whom to call can help a victim free themselves from this horrific crime. On Wednesday morning, we met with the South Carolina Business Council where Barbara Melvin, CEO of SC Ports, was our guest. It was great to update her on all the happenings in DC and learn more about how the port is powering the economic engine of South Carolina. Later on Wednesday afternoon, we spoke at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment in a webinar about hurricanes, flooding, and vulnerable communities. We must ensure all communities regardless of zip code or income are protected from natural disasters. We recently formed the Natural Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Caucus to work to address these exact issues. On Thursday, our office met with representatives from the PGA. Our district hosts frequent PGA events, and it’s crucial to stay in touch with organizations which significantly impact our district’s economy. Today marks the announcement of Republicans’ Commitment to America. This plan to get our country back on track will focus on ensuring we have an economy that's strong, a nation that's safe, a future that's built on freedom, and a government that's accountable. Are you living in the Lowcountry with an adorably cute dog? Every weekend, we highlight one District Dog on our social media platforms. Submit your dog here. As always, if you need us, call us. Whether you need help with a passport, issues with receiving your tax refund or the Veterans Administration, please reach out to our office if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to be heard on any issue at any time. It’s an immense honor to serve each and every one of you. Sincerely, Congresswoman Nancy Mace Visit My Website DISTRICT DOG OF THE WEEK District Dog 🐶 This week's District Dog is Fritzi from Mount Pleasant.
