Dear John xxxxxx,
My dear friend, Dr. Paul Farmer, transformed the lives of millions of marginalized people around the world, bringing them health care, justice, and dignity. To honor his vision for realizing global health equity, I, alongside my colleagues Reps. Barbara Lee and Raul Ruiz, introduced the Dr. Paul Farmer Memorial Resolution. This resolution lays out a 21st century global health strategy that proposes significantly increasing global health aid to $125 billion per year, reforming aid to focus on building national health systems, and putting an end to the exploitation of impoverished countries. Paul called on us to understand global health inequity as an injustice—an effect of years of violence and exploitation inflicted on the global poor. Our resolution embodies that and will serve as a North Star to guide the movement for global health equity for years to come.
This week, I sat down for an interview focused on oral health. A lack of dental care not only impacts your overall health, but also the quality of your life. 29% of low-income adults say the appearance of their mouth affects their ability to apply for a job. Every person deserves access to quality health coverage. I support legislation that will ensure all Americans get the dental care they need.
On Wednesday, I proudly voted for the Presidential Election Reform Act to ensure that presidential elections are decided by the people – not by extremist politicians or insurrectionists. This bill will help protect our democracy and ensure that state officials can't change the rules after an election and overturn the will of the people!
