In less than two years, President Biden and Speaker Pelosi have forced an agenda that wrecked our economy, driving inflation to alarming levels. Far-left socialists have opened our southern border to illegal immigrants, made us dependent on hostile foreign nations for our energy, and empowered our enemies overseas. Week after week, Democrats refuse to consider any bills on the House Floor that would address the serious problems that families are facing.

We have a plan. Today, House Republicans are rolling out our “Commitment to America,” which is a bold conservative vision for a prosperous America that will reverse Biden and Pelosi’s self-made crises. Our plan is built on four key principles: an economy that is strong; a nation that is safe; a future built on freedom; and a government that is accountable.

Here is an outline of our Commitment to America: 

In August 2022, there were 203,597 illegal crossings of our southern border, which is an OVER 300% increase from August 2020. For the first time on U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) record, our southern border surpassed 2 MILLION crossings for a single fiscal year—and there is still one more month left.

Kamala Harris recently claimed the border is "secure," but she is dead wrong – the border is wide open. 

• There have been 3,588,875 illegal border crossings under the Biden administration.
• Additionally, an estimated 900,000 "got-aways" crossed the border illegally but were not apprehended – who are we not catching?
• 78 terrorist suspects have been caught at the border so far this fiscal year, including 12 just last month.
• There have been over 2 million illegal border crossings so far this fiscal year, a new record.

Let's talk about the outcry that we have seen by the Democratic-led cities that claim that they are "sanctuary cities." Gov. Abbott has sent busloads of migrants to New York, Washington, and Chicago to these sanctuary cities. Last week, Gov. DeSantis sent 50 migrants to Martha's Vineyard, which advertises itself as a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants. Our great state of Texas has been overwhelmed and overrun for far too long. The Democrats refuse to address this crisis, but as soon as they receive a small number of migrants, it's a crisis and a public health emergency. Democrats only seem to care about illegal migrants if they arrive on a bus or jet that's been charted by a Republican governor, meanwhile, border states, like Texas, are seeing an average of 7,000 illegal crossings every day. 

Record illegal border crossings under this Administration have led to more drugs, more crime, and a demoralized Border Patrol who are hamstrung from carrying out their law enforcement mission. The situation at the border has become both a national security and humanitarian crisis and must be addressed immediately. We must secure our border.

We had some great visitors in Washington this week. Two Port Neches-Groves High School students stopped by to talk about how SkillsUSA empowers the next generation to become world-class workers and leaders. I met with the Greater Houston Partnership to discuss the Coastal Spine or "Ike Dike." The Texas Gulf Coast is home to millions of people, countless homes and jobs, and numerous refineries and this project will reduce the impact of hurricanes and tropical storms. I also sat down with folks from San Jacinto college to discuss the importance of community colleges across our district and nation. 

From attending the 60th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's moon speech at Rice University to Chamber of Commerce's meetings, Team Weber stayed busy while I was in Washington last week. They also attended the Brazoria County Commissioners Court event proclaiming September 13th as a special day of observance for 
Constitution Day, POW/MIA Recognition Day, Brazoria County Coastal Lifeguards, and Texian Navy Day.
