I’m so proud that the House Veterans Affairs Committee passed my bill, the End Veteran Hunger Act, this week. The bill would boost outreach, education, and enrollment for veterans to participate in proven federal food and nutrition programs. When veterans leave the service – after sacrificing so much to protect our freedom, safety, and security – it is our duty to make sure they are taken care of and can put food on the table.

We owe our service members so much. Even though they volunteered to serve in our Armed Forces, they didn’t volunteer to give up their reproductive rights. But that’s what’s happening to service members who are stationed in states with restrictive abortion laws.

And that’s why I spoke on the House Floor this week to support our service members’ ability to make their own health care decisions, including accessing abortion care. I’m also proud to co-lead the MARCH for Servicemembers Act and support the Access to Reproductive Care for Servicemembers Act, which would protect service members’ right to abortion care in the military.

Since 1965, Head Start has been such a powerful, positive resource for more than 37 million children and families through early learning. But it’s wild that the creation of Head Start 57 years ago was the last major action on early care and education – 24 years before I was even born!

It’s long overdue that we invest in kids the way we should. So this week, I was so excited to join Head Start parents, staff, and volunteers (including a few from San Diego!) to talk about how I’m fighting for the funding, resources, and support that Head Start needs to continue its important work.

Fighting for children is so close to my heart and drives so much of my work in Congress. So I was honored to receive Save the Children’s 2022 Congressional Champion for Children Award. I’ll always fight to make sure every child has the support and opportunities they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
