World leaders addressed the U.N. General Assembly this week in New York.
President Joe Biden reaffirmed his commitment to Israel’s security and preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapidhighlighted Israel's extraordinary achievements, Iran’s continued aggression, and Israel's enduring commitment to peace with the Palestinians in an agreement based on two states for two peoples – so long as a future Palestinian state will be a peaceful one.
On Israel's achievements: "In just 75 years, Israel has become a robust liberal democracy, a technological powerhouse, and an engine for solving the world's greatest challenges."
On peace with the Palestinians: "We can build your future together, both in Gaza and in the West Bank. Put down your weapons and prove that Hamas and Islamic Jihad are not going to take over the Palestinian state you want to create. Put down your weapons, and there will be peace."
On Iran: "The only way to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon is to put a credible military threat on the table. And then, and only then, to negotiate a longer and stronger deal with them."
He also claimed Iran’s regime "has one of the most efficient mechanisms in the protection of human rights," while Iranians protested across the country in response to the regime’s vicious repression.
Also this week, a number of House Democrats condemned comments made this week by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) in which she argued that support for "Israel’s apartheid government" is incompatible with "progressive values."
