The opposition won’t stop—make your gift to defend religious freedom today!

Dear John,

Right now, opponents of religious freedom are escalating their campaign to take away your right to live out your faith.

They won’t stop—and they’ve proven that time and time again.

Colorado cake artist Jack Phillips is the perfect example.

For years, Jack has endured targeted attacks against him and his business, Masterpiece Cakeshop. It all started in 2012 when the Colorado Civil Rights Commission pursued legal action against him after he respectfully declined a request to create a custom-designed cake celebrating a same-sex wedding.

In 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Jack. The High Court found that the state had acted with “clear and impermissible hostility” toward Jack’s religious beliefs, violating the First Amendment.

It should have ended there. But then the same Colorado government agencies decided to pursue Jack a second time—mere weeks after the Supreme Court’s decision.

This time around, Colorado came after Jack because he declined to design a custom cake celebrating a gender transition. Thankfully, after Jack filed a federal lawsuit against the state, it backed off.

But Jack’s legal journey is still not over.

The individual who requested the gender-transition cake (and also happens to be an attorney) wasn’t satisfied and decided to sue Jack in state court seeking damages of more than $100,000!

John, Jack has been forced to spend the last seven years of his life in court. And during that time, one thing has become abundantly clear: For opponents of religious freedom, tolerance is not an option. They believe you must help celebrate what violates your faith—or pay the price.

That’s why your year-end gift is urgently needed now.

Not just to fight back—but to win.

Alliance Defending Freedom is trusting God for $10.3 million by December 31 to finish the year strong so we can stand against growing legal attacks on people of faith.

Will you help?

A page out of the opposition’s playbook

John, this new lawsuit is nothing more than an attempt to harass and ruin Jack because he wants to design cakes consistently with his religious beliefs.

This attorney has relentlessly pursued Jack in order to punish him for his views, banish him from the marketplace, and bankrupt him and his shop.

It’s a move that opponents of religious freedom are using over and over again.

Just look at what the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is doing.

The SPLC has labeled ADF as a “hate group” for defending people who are living by their deeply held beliefs about marriage and human sexuality—beliefs shared by millions of people across the world.

This activist organization has decided that these beliefs are no longer welcome in the public square. They want to silence you, and they’re using their “hate” label and their privileged position with corporate, media, and government officials to do it.

Make no mistake, John. This attack on ADF is also an attack on YOU and your faith.

Praise God that there are people like Jack who refuse to give up their freedom without a fight. He is willing to risk so much—to take a stand—in order to protect religious freedom for us all. And he’s not the only one.

Washington floral artist and grandmother Barronelle Stutzman is waiting to see if the U.S. Supreme Court will hear her case. This is the second time the High Court has been asked to deliver justice for Barronelle after she was sued by the state of Washington and the ACLU six years ago for declining to create custom floral art to celebrate a longtime customer’s same-sex wedding.

Minnesota filmmakers Carl and Angel Larsen are headed back to trial court, as the state continues its effort to punish the couple for living out their faith. In August, the filmmakers won a huge victory for freedom at the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. But state officials declined to appeal that decision, and let the case return to district court, where the government will once again argue that the state can force the Larsens to create films expressing messages that violate their deepest beliefs.

But our work is not just about defending freedom for the cake artist, floral artist, and filmmakers. As important as freedom is for these individuals, there’s even more at stake.

Each of these legal battles for religious freedom has the potential to affect freedom for us all.

That’s why your gift to stand up to opponents of religious freedom is so critical.

By giving today, you will help us finish the year strong so that we can fight back against these threats to your freedom right now—and in the year ahead.

When we stand together, we can win. We do win.

If opponents of religious freedom succeed in forcing someone like Jack to violate his faith, what’s to stop them from coming after you next?

The truth is they won’t stop trying to punish people of faith. We see new threats to religious freedom emerging almost every day.

But there is hope. You can help defend people of faith and stand against efforts to strip away your freedoms.

John, God is using your generous gifts to provide the resources we need to fight back.

And when we stand together in defense of faith and freedom, we can win. We do win.

With God’s blessing (John 15:5) and your faithful prayers and support, ADF has become one of America's most successful advocates at the U.S. Supreme Court, having won ten cases at the High Court since 2011. And we're winning nearly 80% of all our cases.

But there’s more work to be done.

Will you stand with us right now and make your gift to defend religious freedom today?

With every case you fund, every victory you help achieve, and every client you lift up in prayer, you ensure that more of your brothers and sisters in Christ are free to live out their beliefs.

So please don’t wait. Your tax-deductible gift today will help us finish the year strong so that we can fight back and win.
