I don’t know about you, but wishing each other a “sweet new year” this Rosh Hashanah feels like it carries more weight than usual.
Both here and in Israel, voters’ decisions in upcoming elections will have a profound impact on the fabric of each country. We face a choice between leaders who stand up for freedom, equality and democracy, and those who cloak themselves in patriotism while threatening their nations’ founding values.
Rather than simply wishing for a sweet new year, let’s make a promise: To do all we can to help make it one.
Let’s commit to going all out to defend our democratic freedoms -- and to defeat the nauseating stew of extreme, white nationalist MAGA candidates that threaten them. Let’s join with Israeli and Palestinian peace advocates to promote our shared vision for a better future, and to defeat the settlement movement’s right-wing vision of permanent occupation.
Democracy, freedom, justice and equality will only survive if we fight for them. We have our work cut out for us, but together we can win.
