Believe it or not, the little girl you see in this picture never once thought that she would run for office – let alone become the first woman Governor of New York.

But growing up, I had countless trailblazing New York women to look up to – from Shirley Chisholm and Susan B. Anthony to Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sojourner Truth, and so many more – whose tenacity helped make stories like mine possible.

And now, I’m deeply honored to walk on the trails blazed by the many women before me who have advanced issues like gender equality in our state.

Building a state where every New Yorker can succeed means ensuring that women have economic opportunity, equal pay, and workplace protections.

Over the last year, we’ve been expanding paid leave, investing in child care, working to close the wage gap, and supporting women-owned businesses.

And despite relentless attacks from the far right, we’ve stood in defense of our fundamental right to abortion and cemented New York as a safe harbor for reproductive care.

I take great pride in being a part of New York’s story, and making this state a better place for both you and our future generation is at the heart of my work. So today, I’m asking you to show your support not just for me, but for all the progress we can still make to advance gender equality in our state and across the nation:
